About Us

Although this is a new site opened in October 2014, we are a small group of charity fundraisers who have been operating for 3 years via another website, and have established a track record of customer service and good value for money. We are unpaid volunteers, and every cent we raise above unit cost and actual postage incurred will go to the charity, The Painted Turtle, a year round camp in California for children with chronic and life-threatening conditions. The Painted Turtle is a US Registered Not for Profit Organisation, and we are an approved fundraising partner. Our prices are in US dollars, but we are individually based around the world, and our jewellery is packed and posted from the UK. We use the secure Paypal system, and have a link to a currency converter for our customers outside the USA.

Our purpose is simple; to offer good quality silver jewellery at modest prices that offer value for money, while raising money for an outstanding facility that enables children who face more problems daily than most of us experience in a lifetime to reach their potential and make lasting friendships with other children experiencing the same challenges. We count the cost, while you get the quality in the knowledge that every purchase you make achieves some real good in the world rather than line the pockets of a company.

We will regularly add new items to our range, and hope you will join our mailing list so we can advise you of new items and special offers. Much of our jewellery is based on famous names designs, because these have set a standard in terms of elegance and classic design, just as the High Street follows the designs of the big couturier names. We have a wide range of jewellery in our inventory to suit all preferences.

All our jewellery items come packed in tissue with a black velvet pouch to store them in, and we enclose a small piece of anti-tarnish paper to further preserve their appearance. We deal in 925 silver, which is durable, fashionable and always looks good, whether as a statement piece or for everyday wear. We have a small range of hand-crafted gemstone jewellery, which is made in and posted from the USA. All our prices are exactly as shown, no extras.

About The Charity You Support When You Buy

The Painted Turtle is part of the SeriousFun Children’s Network, originally conceived by the late Paul Newman, and provides year-round recreational, therapeutic and medically safe camp experiences, filled with laughter, fun and friendship for chronically ill children who would not otherwise ever attend a summer camp. From campers, to volunteers, to visitors .. the words they all come away with are ‘magical’ and ‘inspirational’. Your purchases help keep that magic and that inspiration alive for children to whom it means the world, because it enriches theirs immeasurably.

The Painted Turtle is very clear that no child or family will ever pay to attend camp, and it is funded solely through donations, every cent of which is put to wonderful use. Every cent we make over unit and actual postage costs goes to the charity. Here young campers discover the joys of childhood often missed during extended medical treatment, participating in outdoor adventure activities in the security of round-the-clock supervision by top medical professionals and dedicated volunteer counsellors. The medical needs of the children are the top priority, and met in the Well Shell, a bright and colourful facility that has no hint of “hospital”, but expertly manages the needs of those requiring dialysis, tube feeding, home ventilators, central venous catheters.

When visiting The Painted Turtle with its cabin village, equestrian centre, fishing and boating dock on Lake Wendy, gym, pool, wheelchair accessible adventure ropes course, and organic farm, children are inspired to reach beyond the restrictions of their illness and confines of prolonged courses of treatment to fulfil their potential, build their self-esteem, and develop new self-awareness and confidence to meet the many challenges they face in life.

We are all born intelligent, creative and powerful human beings .. just look at the power and ingenuity of the average two year old. The children who come to the Painted Turtle were born with the same human qualities and potential but their conditions, and often prolonged programmes of medical and surgical treatment, can have prevented them from achieving that potential. At camp they are provided with a safe yet empowering environment that encourages and enables them to break out of the confines of the shell that has restricted their own and the world’s expectations, and reach confidently beyond them, whilst building supportive friendships with peers who have the same medical conditions.

Perhaps the most eloquent description of what The Painted Turtle means to these children was given by a young camper.

“You forget about medicine, clinics, and check-ups. Instead you think about fishing, canoeing and making birdhouses. You think about laughing, singing, and magic tricks. Something magical happens when you drive up to the gate of The Painted Turtle.”

We thank you for every purchase you make, for this is what helps that magic continue.
